WEEK TWO - CARRIE

I met my friend Carrie the same way I have met nearly all of my "mom friends." I never realized when I walked into the Breastfeeding Support Group at St.Vincent's that I'd form so many amazing friendships. Carrie is one of them. She has a son around Madeline's age and, when we all started getting pregnant again with our second babies, she became pregnant with her second, third, and fourth!

I only personally know two moms of multiples, but both of them are pretty much the sweetest, most zen people I know. Here I am barely treading water with my new baby, and my friend Sarah has TWINS and she's all rolling with the punches and helping all the rest of us new moms out. Carrie's the same way. She has taken having three babies at once, better than I took having one three year old! She's truly awesome and I am so proud and inspired by her!

Carrie,
Just wanted to drop you a note to tell you that you are awesome! Whenever I start to feel overwhelmed with my two little ones, I am reminded of you and your amazing outlook and dedication to all four of your children. You are a fantastic mother and an inspiration to me! Love, Erin

Week ONE - "Nana B"

Since it was my friend Jill who inspired me to do this project, I thought it fitting that this week I send her mother a note! Her mom is a little sick right now, so she thought some "real" mail would cheer her up! So - Nana B will be receiving a little mailbox love from me. : )

Mrs. Mackey, "Nana B"
I was so sad to hear that you were not doing well! : ( There's nothing worse than being in the hospital. Get lots of rest and when Jill visits, let her help you! If you are anything like my mother you will not be good at this. : ) But, it makes us girls feel good to "give back" to our mamas! Get to feeling better soon!

Introduction

A little while ago, I was reading my friend Jill's blog, and she had a post about receiving some "real" mail. I immediately was able to identify. I LOVE getting mail. love it love it! My mom was awesome about sending me care packages when I was in college, and nothing could re-write my day as fast as getting some "mailbox love." So Jill gave me an idea. I liked it and wanted to pay it forward. She mentioned her mother was in the hospital and would love to get some mailbox love! When I sat down and wrote the note I was overcome with how EASY it was. I mean really - get a note card out of my drawer, write it, address and stamp. Maybe a 10 minute process? And even I can find time for that right? So I thought......what if I were to write one letter a week to someone in my life - friend, family member, olllllllld friend and send it off to hopefully brighten up their day? It's my little way to pay it forward. I thought it was a cute idea, though both people I shared it with immediately bombarded me with questions instead of just patronizing me and saying "WOW!! WHAT A GOOD IDEA ERIN! YOU ARE BRILLIANT AND THOUGHTFUL!" but maybe I'm just being oversensitive. (Who me?)

The Rules

1) One letter a week for a year. I'm not going to sit down for two hours every month and write a bunch of notes. I am going to make a priority to find time every single week to write one person a letter. I will then type what I wrote to the recipient in this blog.

2) What if you say something personal?
I'll leave that part out.

3)Are you just going to print off what you type in your blog?
No, that wouldn't be fair! We're talking ol' fashioned hand-written, pen and paper notecards. I just bought a set of 50 of them on ebay! (They are lighthouses like my blog here.....no not the cutest or representative of my personality, but I am trying to do this without breaking the bank!)

4) Aren't you super busy with 1) your two children 2) your other two blogs and 3) your memoirs 4) and ending world hunger?

Ha ha yes I am busy, but maybe part of this is to slow me down - to remind me how truly EASY it is to make someone's day. Also, the other blogs - I feel guilty if I don't upload pics and that's what keeps me from doing it most days. This will just be typing out a letter - I'm pretty quick on the ol' keyboard.

5)To Whom will you be writing letters? Will you write to me?
Lots of people - family and friends mostly. I cant imagine that I am all that important that someone would be desperate to have a letter from me, but if you feel the need, let me know!

Here we go!
